My current research interest within neuro-ophthalmology is:
1) The management of intra-cranial hypertension and
2) Pineal tumour surgery and ophthalmic features
For more than ten years , we have been developing venous sinus stenting in the management of some cases of idiopathic intracranial hypertension with symptoms of pulsatvle tinnitus or visual failure. Although the technique is still regarded as 'experimental' over 150 patients have now been treated, some with excellent results, and none with serious complications such as intracranial bleeding or infarction.
John Pickard, Professor of Neurosurgery and Nick Higgins, Neuro-radiologists, are my collaborators in the IIH study. Ramez Kirollos ,Neurosurgeon, is my colleague in the study we are conducting of pineal patients treated surgically by a posterior approach.
